Warning: these are only *notes* that were taken by a grudging but willing volunteer for a friend who was painstakingly slow at taking notes. They are not accurate and not written word for word from the Stephenie Meyers' mouth except those in quotation marks. If you ask me why these are not word for word I would like to let you know that I am only HUMAN. If you see marks like these (?) below that means I am unsure of what was said during the event. For the exact details, you can view the videos here.
Q: Will you be planning to write a different book?
A: Yes, my new book called "The Host" will be coming out in May. It is a separate book from Twilight. Many people would flip through the book to see if Edward is there but he's not. Don't expect him to be there.
Q: How did you get the idea for different vampire powers?
A: For Jane I just had fun. Edward, of course, came ready in my dream. For Alice I had to think about it. And for the Volterra I had to look into the past at super heroes.
Q: What comes next?
A: Please note that Stephenie Meyer's publicist will not allow any questions about the "future".
Q: Why Bella is immune to vampire skills?
A: Bella is like Edward. Jasper is charismatic. Bella just "thinks differently" than other people. They are just "born with it".
Q: Are your vampires ticklish?
A: Hmm. I don't know but I would have to say that Bella "would try".
Q: Who was your favorite English teacher at BYU?
A: Steven Walker.
Q: Why did you change the cover of The Host?
A: Real artists make the official ones and authors don't get to pick. (Note: the "Craptastic Covers" on Stephenie Meyers site are covers that the author herself made for her amusement and use when she gave print out copies to her families and friends to read.)
Q: How would you describe the relationship between Bella and Jacob now that she has chosen Edward?
A: Jacob is only 16 (Meyers is very defensive about him). Edward can take care of himself. He's been around for a 100 years. Jacob and Bella are kindred spirits but their relation isn't good. Jacob(?) will never be "human again".
Q: Did I read a lot of vampire myths?
A: I did not read a lot of vampire books(?) I came off of a clean slate. I only knew about the Halloween myth. My vampires are "light". It is "dark" when they're not around.
Q: Do you know what it’s like to be in love with two boys?
A: I never had two boys, "I wish". But I did get engaged a lot and ended up marrying my best friend. (Crowd goes "Aww...")
Q: What is your opinion on the theory that Bella and Edward’s relationship isn’t very healthy.
A: Well, its not perfect. They are still learning on how to be in one. Bella is trying to "keep her eyes on the prize" and not looking for "alternatives". She needs to "think this through". Edward, on the other hand, is lost. His thoughts about "how to live life is challenged". He realizes that he "can't shelter her" and tries to "figure out what the best is for her". They're both trying.
Q: Is Edward real?
A: No.
Q: Coming up with human characteristics?
A: I have met a lot of Jessicas. The kind that are nice to your face. I have also met a lot of good Angelas. Jacob is based on a Native American boy named Jake whom I have met. But then later Jake became Jacob (one of her brother's name). The other brothers complained that he likes Jake better so I put them in the story. My other brothers are also werewolves. Paul is like my brother Paul. Paul is hairy. He has a temper problem. He truly is based on him.
Q: Intentionally made Bella a Virgo (zodiac sign)?
A: No, not intentionally. I did so that the events in the book would work well around it. The September birthday is for seniors to take take shape (?) I guess you could attribute Bella's clumsiness to Friday the 13th -- definitely want to avoid (?) Bottom line is, it was not on purpose.
Q: Will you ever write a book for guys?
A: I am writing a Twilight in Edward's perspective. I have 3 younger black (?) brothers and male friends. I am interested to see how guys would think about it.
Q: What does the title of Eclipse mean?
A: Regarding the original book cover I had a hidden face in the sun and the moon. Jacob (sun) was eclipsing Edward (moon) but that was unnatural since light sheds from the other. So, the cover idea wasn't used.
Q: What year do the books take place in?
A: For how long will they make Volvos? I try to make it feel current and "in the present day". That is why I don't put band names.
Q: How did I come up with the Werewolves' back story?
A: It was made up. Everything was made up except there is a real Quileute tribe and story about a magician who turned the tribe into men. You might have noticed that you felt different as you read each myth.
Q: Did Jacob imprint on Bella?
A: No!
Q: How did Carlisle set Bella’s hand and Jacob’s broken bones without x-rays?
A: Bite on leather to make arm straight (?) Something about how its like what Westerners do.
Q: Is it intentional that Bella has survived everything that has killed off the rest of the Cullens?
A: Bella survives at all times. It works really well. Just "perfect symmetry".
Q: Can I keep Jacob as a pet?
A: What people really do like about Jacob is that they know that he's still available since Edward is taken.
Q: ARCs?
A: No! The next book will come out during the same time next years. Its about 3/4 done. Then Midnight Sun will come out and I'll take a break. I've already got the outline for book 5 and 6.
Q: Is there a parallel between Esme and Bella because they both jumped off a cliff?
A: "No. Esme's and Bella's attempts were two very difference experiences. For example, when Esme jumped off a cliff there wasn't an ocean underneath."
Q: Where am I at with the movie?
A: "It's been a pretty exciting week. I don't want to tell you. I don't want to get into too many specifics but things are developing and I'm really excited about it. We've all been through the option thing before and it did not work out for us last time. But right now it looks like they really want to do it and they really want to do it the right way, and that makes me really excited. I know there's always potently because we've all seen movies that didn't excite us that were about books. But then there's some that were so good. My favorite is Sense and Sensibility which just nailed it. I mean, it had scenes that weren't in the book but the characters were so true. I think that's what any writer really wants is for the characters to come through the way you imagine them. So I've had people tell me 'why, why did you do this? why are you putting out there?' and the reason is because 99% pure selfishness. This is about me. No, I'm just kidding. But it is. I want to see it. I saw it when I was writing it and it was so real and I want to see it again. I want to see it on the big screen and have those things come to life so I'm excited. Hopefully it's all going well. Fingers cross."
Q: Would you consider releasing the more adult version of Twilight that you wrote for your sister?
A: It just means that the "next book won't be in the teen section". It will be in a different genre. Pride and Prejudice is an example of an adult book. Forever Dawn being better written (?).
Q: How do you maintain the distinct personalities of your characters?
A: I must admit that I am "crazy". They're like real people to me. When Jacob is angry I know exactly what he's thinking. I know what his remarks are. In my head he's being funny. I can't mix them up.
Q: Who should play Edward?
A: Be realistic. No one over the age of 21. I already gave up on Henry Cavill. I think a guy with a English accent would fit the role (?). NO models allowed because they can get annoying sometimes. We can get the best looking model to be exactly like Edward but if his delivery is wrong then he's no good. Oh look, we have a volunteer to play Edward in the audience.
Q: Who do you like better, Jacob or Edward?
A: I AM SWITZERLAND! (Someone shouted this in the audience and Meyers gladly took this response much to peoples' dismay)
Q: ANY Theoretical Questions About the Future?
A: Not Acceptable.
Q: Parallelism in Wuthering Heights?
A: Bella is a reader. She see her life in the the stories she has read. It's very systematic. She see characters in a certain way. She notices what she's doing wrong and relates it to fictional characters. Like how Edward saw himself (?) Although it wasn't similar, Twilight was based on Pride and Prejudice. Book 4 will be like Twilight in the form of a Midsummer's Night Dream.

Ever After
"Once upon a time," here I go,
In a land of plain, regular Joes.
In days that have long since passed,
There lived a beautiful mahogany lass.
She hummed along with the birds,
Talked to mice, exchanging words.
Mice who amazingly, knew how to sew
And live in and around the chateau.
The bravest prince in all the realm,
Young, handsome and vain as well,
Declared the maid his holy grail
Told her to ditch the cinders and bail.
So what happed with 'ever after'?
Was it filled with fun and laughter?
Cinderella married Prince Charming,
At speeds so fast, it was alarming!
She moved her stuff into his castle condo
All the while singing ABBA’s “Fernando.”
She dropped the 'Cinder-' from her name
Because of her past she was ashamed.
It reminded her of the poverty she left behind.
She wanted to be Ella, queenly and refined.
She had her name spelled out in jewels
And spent all their life savings; what a fool.
When he asked where the money had gone,
"Duh, around my neck," Ella yawned.
Charming went red and showed no remorse,
When he demanded an immediate divorce!
